Frequently Asked Questions

Contact us at: info@suspenz.com or 1-866-787-7369

Q: Will the Free Standing rcks hold 2 Hobie Mirage peddle kayaks?
A: Yes, the racks will hold 2 Hobie kayaks however; because of their depth and width being on the larger size, an extra set of vertical posts need to be added to the 2-Boat Free-Standing Rack.  The extra posts allow enough space between the kayaks so you can take them off and on the rack easily.  The posts will be on the web site soon and until then please call us directly to get a set of posts.

Q: Is this rack system for residential use only?
A: Although the SUSPENZ™ racks are an easy and convenient system for the home, they are also durable for commercial use including; condominium associations, schools, parks, outfitters, retail displays and merchandising.

Q: How do I determine the distance between the towers?
A: Position the SUSPENZ™ towers so that the distance between them is 40% of the length of your kayak.  For example: If your boat is 16 feet (192 inches) long, the posts (towers) should be about 77 inches apart.  (192" x 0.4 = 77")  See chart on Rack Adjustment page

Q: What is "oil canning"?
A: "Oil Canning" is a term that refers to a condition resulting from a boat being stored on a hard, flat surface over a period of time.  The boat becomes flattened on that part of the hull.  If this happens, your boat may not track well when paddling.

Q: Can I put wheels/canisters on the bottom of the rack?
A:  Yes, you can.  However since there are no cross bars you will need to take the boats off the rack before moving them.

Q: What materials are your racks made of?
A:  They are manufactured using commercial grade powder-coated steel, giving you a very solid and sturdy rack.  The straps are made with UV resistance nylon webbing.

Q: Do I have to use the anchoring hardware that is supplied with the Floor Standing Rack?
A:  The anchors are to be used if your storage racks are placed in an area where they could get blown over by a gust of wind -- or if you want extra assurance.  For normal garage, basement, or boathouse storage, the anchors are not needed.

Q: Can I add a fourth boat to the floor standing rack?
A: Yes, however there are two things need to be aware:

     1.
The fourth boat will be difficult to reach.  You may need a step stool to load the boat.
     2. You will need to use the supplied anchoring hardware on the wall.  Mount the top of the tower (post) to a stud in your wall using  the anchoring hardware provided.  This will prevent your rack from leaning forward and controls the stress points.
